My thing to read lately has been fantasy/dark romantasy; it’s been a minute since I delved into a thriller/suspense novel. (I’ve also struggled paying attention to read at all lately, so I sought out a shorter book to review first in 2026.) This book may be short, but it’s a ride I didn’t want to put down once I got started.

Panchyk’s engaging, vivid storytelling and strong pacing kept me glued to my Kindle for 200+ pages in a day. Andy Creighton Is Dead never feels boring even when the seldom slower moments arrive. None of the plot twists are blatantly obvious (wish I could share more without giving plot away), and they happen so frequently that the suspense and dread lingers throughout. The last two chapters and epilogues left the book in an ending caked in suspense right until the end; I respect that commitment. Ambiguity is this book’s strength.

Main narrators Sloane Riley and Mandy are fleshed out and human including in their mistakes and shortcomings. The chapter transitions between Sloane’s and Mandy’s perspectives maintain anticipation and high stakes in two different ways. Sloane’s perspective brings an energy of confusion, anger, and fear from the tension of parasocial relationships, reader entitlement, and business pressure. Mandy’s investigations unravel the story’s deceitful truths as an outside observer on the inside, often with no way to alert Sloane. The women get so close to sharing plot-changing information, and then another obstacle keeps them from doing so; it gets frustratingly good.

The only aspect of the storytelling that threw me off a bit was the ending. While I didn’t mind how the story ended generally, it didn’t 100% fit how Panchyk wrote Sloane and Mandy. There’s an attempt to make us question the validity of something that came out of left field somewhat, but it doesn’t take away from this being an enjoyable read or make me upset. The ending isn’t ruined at all.

If you’re a fan of thriller/suspense novels and looking for an easy but exciting read, Andy Creighton Is Dead is an awesome addition to your Kindle/Kindle Unlimited!
